What is hypnosis?

It is a very comfortable state that allows you to totally focus and concentrate.

Have you ever been deep in thought while driving, and find that you've missed your exit?  Been so focused on a movie, book, game or project that you momentarily didn't notice when someone was talking to you?  Have you ever daydreamed?  That's what being hypnotized is like.


What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is the use of the hypnotic state to solve problems.  The process enables you to change habits, reduce stress and achieve your goals, much more easily than you can in a state of normal awareness. The process has been used for thousands of years to help people with a wide variety of mental and physical challenges.


Misconceptions vs. Reality:

M - A hypnotist can control my mind.
R - A hypnotist only serves as a knowledgeable guide or facilitator. You're perfectly capable of saying no and you can end the session any time you like.  You are in control.  In fact, the point of hypnosis is to give you more control of your life.

M - I'll lose my free will.

R - When you're hypnotized, you don't lose your personality, your free will or your personal strength. Hypnosis is a heightened state of concentration and focused attention.

M - I might do something immoral.

R - You will fully adhere to your usual moral standards. You're in control.

M - I might give up my secrets.
R - Clients only say or do what they are comfortable with in their everyday awake state.  Also, the hypnotherapist generally does the talking during a session, just allowing you to relax and have clear, uninterrupted focus. 


M - I can't be hypnotized.

R - Everyone can be hypnotized, with the exception of individuals who don't wish to be hypnotized, or have an advanced mental disorder.  If you can learn, you can be hypnotized.

M - It's dangerous.

R - It's generally no more distressing than daydreaming. There are countless pieces of medical literature that show you that hypnosis is no more dangerous than taking an aspirin, and in some cases, less-so.

M - It doesn't work.

R - Experts agree that hypnosis is a powerful way to make rapid, positive changes for yourself. Read the section called "What the Experts Say" for more information.


M - Hypnosis is sleep.

R - It's not. Hypnotized subjects are relaxed, but aware and awake.

M - I won't remember the session.

R - Most people remember their sessions as one would remember a boring conversation or a daydream.  Remembering the details that they find of importance or interest.

M - I might not wake up.

R - ​You can emerge from hypnosis any time you want.  You are in control.
